Fourth Basic Bossa Nova Phrase
This phrase matches samba Partido Alto phrase. It may be constructed by composition of 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 and 2/4 rhythms. Using Bossa Nova Guitar numbering scheme resulting phrase is described as 1321.
Beats:
As mentioned earlier, in this phrase the onbeat sequence starts in the middle of the second measure and continues through the first half of the first measure. Onbeat sequence contains 4 beats and is followed by the sequence of 3 offbeats in the midle of the phrase.
Though this rhytmic phrase appears to be very popular in samba music it is usually played in it's reversed variation. This will be covered in the next lesson.
