This CD is compiled from essential Bossa Nova recordings from 1958 - 1961 João did with Tom Jobim. There were totally 3 albums and few singles: Chega de Saudade/Bim Bom (1958, Brasil) Odeon 12725/6
Desafinado/Hô-bá-lá-lá (1958, Brasil)
Odeon 13059
João Gilberto Cantando as Musicás do Filme Orfeo do
Carnaval (1962, Brasil) Odeon BWB 1092 (45 rpm)
Chega de Saudade (1959, Brasil) Odeon MOFB 3073
O Amor, o Sorriso e a Flor (1960, Brasil) Odeon MOFB 3151
João Gilberto (1961, Brasil) Odeon MOFB 3202
Unfortunately these recordings are almost impossible to find, except in compilations like this one. The one I selected seems to be most inclusive, although there are some very important tracks missing, such as Bim Bom and Hô-bá-lá-lá. In any case, these recordings are a must for any Bossa Nova fan. Besides from being very nicely arranged, with João's guitar and Jobim's orchestra and including João's vocal in it's freshest moments, these recordings have historical importance - in them Bossa Nova was invented. And they are also extremely important to any guitarist who wants to learn to play Bossa. |
