This is very nice compillation of the music of Chico
Buarque, who is one of most versatile artists among all that created
modern musica popular Brasileira. He started in music festivals in 60's
with simple marchas and samba canção, like planetary popular
A
Banda and he would later always find time to address these musical
roots, like in Cotidiano or Vai Levando, recorded also by
Tom
Jobim on his Antonio Carlos Jobim and Miucha
- collaboration with Chico's sister and second wife of João
Gilberto - Miucha. Chico soon accepted Tropicalismo movement and this
period represent the songs found in the beginning of this album - Essa
Moça tá Differente, Cara a Cara and Deus Lle Pague.
In later 70 he created his own unique style that represent a number of
ballads found in the second part of this compillation, like Deixe a
Menina or Bye, Bye, Brasil and at the same time he always stayed
open for more traditional Brazilian samba styles or even bossa nova. At
a more recent time he collaborated with Milton Nacsimento
like in O Que Será, Caetano Veloso
or with Tom Jobim on his album Passarim. For the latter he even
wrote lyrics and among those is one of Jobim's most beautiful songs Retrato
em Branco e Preto, formerly known as Zingaro. Chico is definitely
one of most important figures of modern Brazilian music and any music collector
should at least get one of his compillation like this one.
