Following great succes of its predecessors The Composer
of Desafinado Plays and Wave, Jobim
creates his last all-instrumental work, this time with new team, leaded
by Brazilian arranger and orchestrator Eumir Deodato. As a result this
album bears slightly more of percussive Brazilian sound, but it lacks some
of German romantic and dramatic sound that had been created on previous
albums by Claus Ogerman. Therefore this record stands for itself as a unique
Jobim-Deodato collaboration and being such it recreated the success of
the previous albums. The selection of tracks is similar to the previuos
album Wave and it consists of few evergreens, such as The Girl From
Ipanema and marvellous choro by the great Brazilian saxophonist Pixinguinha
- Carinhoso, but also some yet unheard Jobim's compositions, as
well as nice improvisation on various Jobim's themes - Tide. Everything
else said for the other instrumental Jobim's albums can be said for this
one too.
