13. Passarim - (bonus track) Some time before this recording Jobim gathered it's own1 band for the first time and called it Banda Nova. It included his son Paolo on guitar, Danilo Caymmi on flute, Jacques Morelenbaum on cello, Paulo Braga on drums and their wifes as back vocals. The result was a winning combinantion that marked the last phase of Jobim's career. He remained recording and touring with this band until the end of his life in December 1994. Increased awareness of environmental problems are present in Passarim, Bebel is yet another beautiful Jobim's bossa ballad, Luiza is somewhat older but perhaps even more beautiful waltz, Gabriela comes from Jobim's soundtrack for the film of the same name, Fascinatin' Rhythm comes from George Gershwin and two of the songs were composed by Paolo. As a bonus you get great version of Anos Dourados sung in Portuguese by Chico Buarque and also Portuguese version of Passarim. All in all, an excellent album. |
